FwboNet offers three grades of email service. All of these are available from within a website, but be aware that only Forwarders and Standard Mailboxes are free: Advanced Mailboxes cost £15pa each.
For most clients, having FwboNet administrate email services for them is simpler than navigating a Control Panel (and omits an extra cost). Most clients ask for specific mailboxes at site set-up and need no more from that side of the site. We are happy to add, delete and update email services; these can in most cases be performed the same day that a request is received. If it becomes evident that using FwboNet as an admin proxy is inefficient, we ask you to take up a Control panel.
FwboNet offers stand-alone email services following the pattern <yourname@fwbo.net>. They are available in the same grades (see below) as those for site-specific email.

An Email Forwarder simply relays messages through itself on to a destination mailbox. Many Web users need a mailbox for work they do via a website — but would not be able, want or need to mainatin it as a permanent contact address. Where it would be administratively complex to collect mail from a number of mailboxes, multiple forwarders can relay mail into just one standard mailbox. They can also act as a mask for your regular mailbox, which you can keep private, protecting it from spam harvesting.
To set one one up you simply need to supply the set-up Control Panel (or FwboNet as your admin proxy) with a mailbox to forward to. It is possible to daisy-chain email through multiple forwarders to reach a destination box — and/or have email fowarded to multiple addresses simultaneously.
An Email Forwarder looks and behaves the same as any other mailbox. To set one up in your email software (something like Tools > Accounts > Edit), specify the email address as being that of the Email Forwarder. The incoming information should be that of the standard mailbox that the forwarder realys onto, and the outgoing information that of your ISP’s outgoing mail server.

A standard mailbox is a technically simple email service. Each mailbox has a maximum storage space (this includes transfer size: you can't pass a 30Mb file through a Standard Mailbox). It also has no spam or anti-virus filtering.
To send and receive mail from your own computer, you will need the following information.
| Requested information | Corresponding data |
|---|---|
| POP3 (incoming) address | mail.fwbo.org |
| SMTP (outgoing) address | Provided by your internet connection provider (ISP) |
| Username | boxname@yourdomain.tld |
| Password | chosen at set-up |
Other powers. There's no independant control panel for any individual Standard Mailbox. Mailbox controls are only accessible through the site Control Panel. However, if your website has a Control Panel installed, you can set the mailbox to:
Mail on the go. you can access the contents of the mailbox from a web browser when you're away from your regular computer. Go to <http://webmail.yourdomain.tld/> (replacing ‘yourdomain.tld’ with your site’s domain name) and add your mailbox's username-password pair. This is a quick ‘n’dirty access method; you won't be able to keep copies of your replies (tip: Cc your own email address) or build up an address book. It is very useful, nevertheless.

An Advanced Mailbox functions the same as a Standard Mailbox, plus:
(Roaming SMTP is an outgoing mail service that can be used to send email from any location, through any internet connection. This may be useful for lap-top users particlularly those able to automatically connect to wireless networks.
Warning! Advanced Mailbox virus protection controls are a bonus protection; they are not a substitute for failing to to take due care of your own computer. FwboNet is not responsible for updating antivirus tools on Advanced Mailboxes (these are operated by Fasthosts Internet Ltd) and cannot be held responsible for the adequacy of their protection.
